The Club

Royal Blackheath Golf Club is a truly distinctive place

Royal Blackheath Golf Club is first and foremost a private members’ club, sustained for over four centuries by the continuity of its membership.

Founded in 1608, the Club occupies a singular place in the history of the game. Yet its character is shaped not only by longevity, but by the community that has maintained its traditions, competitions and standards across generations.

The Club remains proudly member-owned and member-led. Competitive golf sits at the heart of club life, supported by a full programme of fixtures, inter-club matches and honours boards that reflect the enduring importance of participation and achievement. Alongside this, a varied social calendar fosters camaraderie beyond the course.

While heritage informs the Club’s identity, it does not define its outlook. Royal Blackheath combines respect for tradition with a measured and progressive approach to governance, course development and membership.

The course, refined by James Braid and carefully enhanced in recent years, continues to provide a strategic and engaging test. Overlooking it, the Grade I listed Eltham Lodge serves as both clubhouse and symbol of continuity - a place where members gather not only to dine and socialise, but to steward the future of the Club.

Membership at Royal Blackheath means becoming part of a diverse local, national and international community united by respect for the game and for one another.
